In 2012 HSBC launched the ‘Reduce Program’ to reduce our annual carbon emissions by about a third per employee by 2020. As well reducing our overall impact on the environment, the Reduce Program supports our wider businesses strategy of eliminating complexity and inefficiency.  

During Global Climate Change Week, 14-20 OCT, HSBC across MENAT was engaged in the Reduce Awareness Campaign, which included activities and awareness messages that aimed to raise understanding around the importance of contributing to managing better our waste and decreasing the amount of paper and water we use in our buildings. 

Some activities held during this week, was the screening of “Our Planet: Our Business” Film. Inspired by the Netflix “Our Planet” series, this film shows the immense value of nature to our economy, the scale of the challenges that we are facing, and the critical role that business can play in creating solutions at scale.

BMW Hybrid car campaign with Ginger camel to highlight Alfardan’s initiative for sustainability by providing electric car charging stations in various Alfardan and partner properties in cooperation with Siemens and Kahrama. 

Alfardan group started the initiative to recycle used paper in the different AlFardan Group subsidiaries. Therefore, an MOU was signed with Elite paper Recycling to provide bins and collection of the paper.

Alfardan Group’s offices will start to adopt a new sustainability standard in day to day operations throughout the week. This standard will then be rolled out across all of our properties and businesses as part of a long term sustainability policy adopt by Alfardan on the group level. We will be highlighting

Blood Donation Campaign was conducted at InterContinental Doha on 30th October 2019 in order to support the Qatar sustainability week.

Our sustainability event this year is “REDUCE – REUSE - RECYCLE”. It is about reducing the usage of papers, reusing the already used papers and recycling the 100% used papers (waste papers).

Why: To achieve our corporate vision of revolutionizing the Qatari construction industry by achieving world class standard in environment and to stand up for protecting the environment.

How: We applied “Paperless Organization” concept via the use of a common corporate software, we use the used papers and we outsourced a specialized recycling company “M/s. Elite Paper Recycling” to recycle the waste papers and cardboards. Elite’s dedicated containers are placed in our main warehouse; all our waste papers and cardboards are collected therein.

Regus Qatar regularly holds a community events in our business centers. In support of the Qatar Sustainability Week, we have launched an initiative and encouraged our clients in our business centre to bring some desk plant during this upcoming Halloween Brunch.

In support of the Qatar Sustainability Week, we have launched an initiative and encouraged our clients in our business centre to bring some desk plant during our Diwali Brunch. We had some clients from MTS Qatar and Plenum Trading who participated in this initiative.

With the objective of reducing waste and protecting the environment, Facilities Management and Maintenance Company has implemented one week with no paper cups at the Head Office, Al Sharif Tower. Employees supported this initiative by bringing their own reusable cups, tumblers and china mugs for their use. FMM is in one with Qatar Green Building Council in promoting sustainability projects and activities. 

During this event we will be doing a beach cleanup in the Qatari Heritage Village of Al Ghariyah together with the Hilton Hotels in Qatar.

This event is not open to the public.

As part of our phased approach to recycling, with processes already in place to manage our recycled waste, QNB has begun installation of paper recycling bins in QNB offices and mixed recycling bins at selected branches.

DISS want to do things right in our business. For us this means implementing sustainable processes that are aligned with our values and are environmentally friendly. Qatar Sustainability week is a perfect opportunity to jump start our sustainability efforts starting with our internal teams. In our participation towards environmental responsibility and in line with Qatar Sustainability Week, DISS will execute the following go green campaign:

• All employees will be encouraged to wear Green on Thursday October 31st
• Employees will attend a 1 hour 'lunch and learn' where they will learn the importance of sustainability
• Employees will conduct workplace inspection of our corporate office and training academy to identify areas where we can replace more environmentally friendly equipment and products, such as lighting, power bars, fire equipment, etc.
• Employees will be encouraged to take the metro to meetings and to commute, where possible - special rewards system for the user with the most rides
• We will eliminate single use plastic bottles by providing all employees with reusable eco friendly water bottles.

ILoveQatar.net’s office has been recycling since 2016 with number of different recycling companies and recently, we adopted “No one time plastic items” in our office to reduce the waste.

-Recycle as usual

-No one time use plastic cutleries, plastic straws, wooden chopsticks, plastic bags

-No plastic bottled water, takeout coffee cups or plastic cups

-Use tumbler for takeout drinks and eco-bags for grocery

-No paper printing for internal use

We recommend other organizations to join this initiative!

Objectives:Promotes the Environment

Manufacturing paper products produce greenhouse gases, causing deforestation and global warming. Recycling can offset some of the environmental impact, but not by much. Most paper eventually ends up in a landfill. Further, ink and toners contain volatile compounds and non-renewable substances which are damaging to the environment. It is much more sustainable to simply reduce paper use altogether by switching to a paperless office.

We have been doing and will continue to do initiatives in support of Qatar Sustainability Week 2019 and beyond. Some such initiatives include:

• Print documents double-sided and where possible, resort to digital ways to reduce waste
• Continue to provide all staff with metal water bottles
• Encourage the use of QR codes for staff contact info rather than printing business cards
• Turn off all the lights once everyone has left the office
• We have recycling bins at the office and encourage staff to use them. Some staff members bring their waste from home to recycle.
• Consider and recommend sustainability in the design of projects

We also recently participated in No Paper Day 2019 where we encouraged staff to bring newspapers, magazines, office paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, cups, jugs, steel cans, aluminum cans, old electronics and anything else that can be recycled.
